Events of Criminal Case

Abe became a suspect after a photo of him eating hotdogs was found. As eating hotdogs was a part of the killer's profile, and since Abe was within the area, Maddie decided that this warranted a talk with him. Abe showed remorse for the victim, saying that his death was tragic. He expressed that the World Exhibition was for the inventions of a better tomorrow and that to kill inventors was to kill their future. When asked if he saw anything, he said that he only came to look at the inventions there.

Abe was spoken to again when he was revealed to be the leader of a People Against Progress, a group of extreme Luddites (people who oppose to the prospect of machinery replacing human labor). Abe said that the worker's livelihoods were at stake with machinery to do the work instead of them. While he understood that without progress, he wouldn't have trains to drive. He also believed that progress needs to stop somewhere because he thought that steampacks will replace his train the same way that rifles replaced bow and arrows. He feared that if this happened, he will be out of the job.

In the end, Abe was proven to be Orville's killer. After initially denying involvement, Abe confessed to the murder. He believed that the world was going to end if the Steampack succeeded and people gained the ability to fly. Wanting to save humanity, he shot Orville with a steam-powered shotgun. Judge Takakura sentenced him to 15 years in a psychiatric penitentiary.
