Events of Criminal Case

Ivan was first interrogated by the player and Carmen after they reconstructed a sign saying that Ivan was the mansion's caretaker. He identified the victim as a civil notary named Mikhail Karamazov, and did not hide his joy over hearing of his death. He explained that he had to chase the victim off the estate several times, usually with a shotgun. He also pointed out the victim always played cards with the estate owner at Café Akunin, prompting the player and Carmen to look there for more clues.

Ivan was spoken to again regarding an argument he had with the victim before his death. On the footage of the argument, Mikhail insulted Ivan's family, which according to Dupont was a bad idea. He explained the victim was going to kick him off the estate. He felt that since the owner was too busy with his own things, he pretty much owned the estate. Ivan went on to say he did not kill Mikhail; he just wanted to prove the victim had no right to the estate.

Ivan was found innocent after the team incarcerated Dmitri Lermontov for Mikhail's murder.
